Kottayam: Former minister and senior leader G Sudhakaran has refused to renew CPM membership, citing continuous neglect and ridicule by the party's state secretary M V Govindan and Alappuzha district secretary R Nazar.
In a Facebook post, Sudhakaran severely criticised the CPM leadership, mentioning that after being excluded from the state committee, no leader enquired about his activities as an ordinary member in the branch committee.

Govindan had made a remark during a news conference, implying that Sudhakaran did not deserve any consideration, and laughed mockingly. Sudhakaran said no one was willing to question or correct this.
Sudhakaran attached a video of Govindan's news conference in the post.
"In 2026, I did not apply to renew my membership, so I did not have to pay the subscription fees. I was removed from the state committee in 2022 and I served as a branch committee member under the Alappuzha district committee. I participated regularly in all branch committees except one because of an injury sustained in a fall. Despite being a state committee member for 43 years, the district secretary never enquired about my activities after I started working at the branch.
I have no complaints," Sudhakaran said.
"Despite having a 63-year history with the party, I was not given any public events by the district secretary in the past five years. When the Emergency's 50th anniversary was held at the EMS Hall near my home, I, the only person in the district who experienced arrest, jail and police brutality for defying the ban during the early days of the Emergency, did not receive even an invitation. A local committee member who was a close disciple of a district committee member even posted derogatory comments about my father," he said.
"Despite all this, I continued with the party for the past five years without succumbing to any temptations. Now, the state secretary, during a news conference, used inappropriate language suggesting I was not worthy of consideration and laughed mockingly, which the journalists found amusing. No one was willing to question or correct this," he said.
"I will not detail further incidents. Under these circumstances, I do not wish to cause difficulties to the aforementioned leaders by continuing in the party. Therefore, during this membership scrutiny period, I am choosing not to renew it voluntarily. I will continue to stand firm in my beliefs alongside the masses," Sudhakaran said.
Sudhakaran's wife Jubilee Navaprabha said that he would not react to the FB post now, but everything would be disclosed in the coming days.
LDF convener T P Ramakrishnan said Govindan would respond to the concerns expressed by Sudhakaran. "He may not renew his membership and still continue as a party sympathiser. Many people do that," Ramakrishnan said.
