Kochi: Human rights commission chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas directed Ernakulam district police chief (rural) to inspect the case diary registered at Thadiyttaparambu police station in the case in which a five-year-old boy died after falling into a swamp at Pazhanganad Jungle Park in Kizhakkambalam.
The nature of the case, progress of investigation, findings and facts in the postmortem report should be examined. A detailed examination report should be submitted within three weeks.
A senior officer representing the police chief should attend the sitting to be held at PWD Rest House, Pathadipalam at 10am on June 12, when the case is being considered.
Justice Thomas had ordered the RDO to conduct a transparent and effective investigation into the incident. A representative of RDO was present at the sitting held on April 22. Kizhakambalam panchayat secretary was also present.
The commission is also investigating whether the park management provided the necessary security measures and whether the park has a licence issued by the panchayat and related agencies.
The deceased was Mohammed Adam, of Chengalam South, Kottayam. The incident happened in Feb during an excursion. A teacher, who was holding Adam, put him down after seeing a kid leaving the room they were sitting in and went after him. When she returned, Adam was missing and in the ensuing search operation he was found in the nearby stream.
The action is being taken in a case that was registered voluntarily based on a newspaper report.
