Disgraced CPI-M leader Zakir Husain surrenders

surrendered before the police in the case related to alleged kidnapping and threatening of a businessman in 2015. Husain surrendered before the investigating officer, ACP of District Crime Records Bureau, between 9 am and 10 am on Thursday.

Anticipating Husain's surrender, media persons were waiting at the main entrance of '

Revenue Tower

' which houses the office of city police commissioner and other top police officers. However, Husain entered ACP's office through a gate in the backside of the building.

It was on Monday, the Kerala high court denied him anticipatory bail in the case which dates back to 2015.

The court had directed Husain to surrender before the investigating officer, if he opts so, between 9am and 10am on any day within seven days from Monday. After necessary interrogation, the investigating officer has to produce the accused before the magistrate before 4pm on the same day. The order further stated that the magistrate can consider regular bail plea by the accused and decide on merits on the same day.

It was on October 27, Husain was booked along with three others for allegedly kidnapping and threatening businessman Jube Paulose of Vennala in June 2015. Absconding since October 27, Husain approached the Kerala High Court after Ernakulam district principal and sessions court dismissed his anticipatory bail plea. later suspended Husain from area secretary’s post on November 4, pending inquiry.
