Delhi-based model drowns in quarry pond

Kochi: A 26-year-old Delhi-based model drowned in a quarry pond at Pettamala, near Kuruppampady in Perumbavoor on Thursday.

The deceased was Divyanshu Jyoshi, who came to Ernakulam for an ad film shoot. He entered the waters around 2.30pm while his friends were scouting for locations for the shoot. Police said that he slipped and lost balance soon after entering the waters. His friend, who was filming him, raised an alarm.

Locals recovered him from a depth of 30 feet and was rushed to taluk hospital, however doctors there declared him dead on arrival. The body was handed over to the kin after an autopsy.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old boy, John Joyal of Alappuzha, was killed in an accident at Kumbalangi on Friday. The motorcycle on which he was riding pillion went out of control while attempting to overtake a private bus and Joyal fell on the road. His friend Ashmal, 18, a native of Kumbalangi, sustained injuries in the accident.
