Customs AIU seizes gold at Cial

KOCHI: The air intelligence unit (AIU) of customs at Cochin International Airport Ltd (Cial) on Wednesday seized foreign-origin gold paste sandwiched between two layers of undergarments, totaling 1,128 grams (including the weight of underwear) from two international passengers.

The accused persons were identified as Abdul Raoof and Sakkir, both hailing from Palakkad. Both passengers arrived from Dubai by flight IX 434, which landed at 12.15am. They were intercepted by the AIU in the green channel. During examination of the passengers followed by detailed inspection, the gold in paste form was found sandwiched between the two layers of undergarments.

While 558 grams (including underwear) was seized from Raoof, 570 grams (including underwear) was seized from Sakkir. The seizure was made based on profiling done by the AIU officers. AIU registered two separate cases and further investigation is underway.
