Corp to begin payout disbursal to Konthuruthy residents on Saturday

Kochi: Kochi corporation will on Saturday start disbursing compensation for rehabilitation of Konthuruthy residents. Corporation authorities held a meeting with the residents on Wednesday, where the residents submitted various documents required to get compensation. The corporation will also take steps to evict them from the shores of the river.A total of Rs 14 lakh will be given to the families that have already submitted the required documents. The corporation will provide Rs 9 lakh as initial payment to the rest. The remaining Rs 5 lakh will be given once they submit the documents. "A total of 108 families attended the meeting. Most of them submitted ration cards, possession certificate of land, no-dues certificate from KSEB and KWA, etc. They also submitted a request seeking compensation," sources with corporation said. A few days earlier, the corporation informed the high court regarding its plan to distribute compensation to the residents and evict them. The court gave approval to go ahead with the plans. Following strict orders from HC to rehabilitate the residents, the local body began steps to do the same.
