Congress hides party flag fearing the BJP: Pinarayi Vijayan

Kochi: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan unleashed a scathing attack on Congress for what he termed its failure to hold the party flag during the roadshow as part of Rahul Gandhi's Wayanad visit held on Wednesday. Speaking at a press conference in Kochi on Thursday, Vijayan said that the Congress is so afraid of the BJP that it hides its own flag.

The new generation leaders of Congress don't know the history of the flag which bears the stamp of freedom struggle and those who know it wilfully keeps mum, Vijayan said. The chief minister also criticised the SDPI links of the Congress and the UDF. “It was on Wednesday that the top leader of the Congress submitted nomination in Wayanad.

Naturally, a section of people who support him accompanied the leader. The most important thing that we could notice there was that the flag of their own party couldn’t be seen anywhere there. There is a doubt as to why Congress is becoming a party which is not hesitant to hide even its own flag,” Pinarayi Vijayan said.

He asked why the Congress flag became untouchable to that party's leaders.

“As per a media report, it was in the wake of last year’s controversy that the workers participated in the roadshow of Rahul Gandhi by avoiding the party flag and League’s flag. It is cowardness,” Pinarayi Vijayan said. “Congress forgot even the brave patriots who suffered the torture by British police while trying to uphold that flag. It was an idea of Mahatma Gandhi to design a flag which reflects the ideals of freedom struggle. Later, the flag became Congress’ party flag. It was a demand by Sangh Parivar that the Congress should abandon the tricolour,” the chief minister said.
