Bengali actor emails her complaint against Ranjith to police
Kochi: The Bengali actor, who raised allegations of sexual misconduct against director-actor and former chairman of Kerala Chalachitra Academy, Ranjith, has sent a formal complaint to Kochi city police. The complaint seeks to initiate action for molestation with criminal intent for the offence committed in 2009.City police confirmed that Kochi city police commissioner S Syamsundar received the petition from the actor. The FIR would be registered under Ernakulam North police station limits on Monday night itself, said police.The actor stated that Ranjith invited her to act in his directorial film Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha. As part of the discussion, she was called to a flat in Kochi's Kaloor-Kadavanthra region, where he was staying."During the course of discussion, he clutched my hand and later attempted to spread his hand to other parts of my body with sexual intention. Realizing that his intentions are not a discussion regarding the film but with sexual intent, I had to escape from the flat and return to the hotel where I was staying," she said in the complaint.She shared the experience with scriptwriter Joshy Joseph the next day and was compelled to seek his help as she was not given the travel ticket for her return journey, the complaint said.In the backdrop of the Hema Committee report, she had the occasion to share her experience with the media, she said. "In view of the public stand taken by the public functionaries in the state of Kerala, that a written complaint is a prerequisite, I am lodging this complaint by way of email addressed to your good self, as the offence has been committed within your territorial limits at DD Flats, Kadavanthra, Kochi," the complaint said.
