KOCHI: Estefania Guevara, granddaughter of Argentine Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara and a professor of economics at Havana University, visited Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB) on Thursday morning.
After visiting the art presentations and installation at Aspinwall House, the main venue of KMB, Estefania said that the exhibitions and venues were ‘astonishing and exhilarating’.
“Being here is the same as being in my homeland and the artworks here are just as enticing. India is like Cuba to me,” Estefania said.
She visited other venues too. She was accompanied by Kochi Biennale Foundation president Bose Krishnamachari. Estefania was seen eagerly interacting with the artists, who explained their artworks. A week ago, Estefania and her mother Aleida Guevara, a child rights activist and the daughter of Che Guevara, had visited the state capital.
Chief minister
Pinarayi Vijayan had presented the first Gouriamma award, instituted by the K R Gouriamma Foundation in memory of the late communist leader, to Aleida Guevara. The award was in recognition of her efforts to rehabilitate disabled children and provide debt relief to developing countries.
Meanwhile, Consul General of Australia Sarah Kirlew also visited KMB on Thursday. “The Biennale is a very attractive and brilliant exhibition of art. Creations made in response against disorder are thought-provoking,” she said.
