Allocation of apartment units in Rajiv Awas Yojana housing complex to be delayed

Kochi: Allocation of apartment units for beneficiaries in Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) housing complex will be delayed further. According to corporation authorities, the trial run of sewage treatment plant of the apartment complex will be held only on March 10.The procedures for completing the selection of beneficiaries are still incomplete. "Only 211 beneficiaries furnished all the documents. The allotment for 198 beneficiaries has been completed," mayor V K Minimol said at a corporation council meeting held on Tuesday. There are 398 beneficiaries as per the list prepared by corporation. Moreover, the beneficiaries should pay their share. It is by using the beneficiaries share and rentals from the shops on the ground floor of the flat complex that the common amenities in the complex will be maintained, she said. The mayor also informed the council that Vyttila zonal office would be demolished and reconstructed. She further said that Indira Canteen would be opened at Edappally and IDBI bank has offered to provide its CSR fund for setting up the canteen. The fee for cremating bodies at public gas crematoriums would be fixed and the proposal would be placed at the next council meeting. The mayor also asked the corporation officials to prepare a report on the condition of the crematoriums in the city. Several councillors who spoke at the meeting said that there was an acute shortage of drinking water in various parts of the city. Minimol said that several meetings that included one with the water resources minister were held to discuss the issue and a decision has been taken to enhance pumping from water treatment plant at Aluva.
