Kottayam: An Alappuzha native has been stranded on an Iranian ship for one-and-a-half months.
Amid the conflict in the Middle East, Jerin John, 30, from Pallippad Parayankeri Kandathil Puthen Veedu, is unable to return home. He went to work as an engine technician on an Iranian ship eight months ago and was supposed to return in April. For the past 20 days, food has not been adequately available, and they rely on other ships for food.
The ship travelled from Dubai to Iran. Neither the agency that sent him nor the shipping company is providing a clear response about a possible return. This has left the family deeply worried. Phone calls to the family are made by sending money. Besides, 12 Malayalis are reportedly stranded at an Iranian port. The family has requested help from MP K C Venugopal and MLA Ramesh Chennithala in bringing Jerin back home.
