Idukki: After nearly eight days of hurdles, medical student Arya Aldrin, 20, and her Siberian husky pet dog

Saira

safely reached her hometown from Ukraine. Arya and Saira landed at Cochin airport around 6pm on Friday. “I hope that the chilly weather in Munnar will be more helpful for Saira. I am happy to reach Kerala with my pet,” Arya said.

Sachu Mannarathara

, Arya’s relative, said that his effort was successful. “Arya called me on Feb 24 and requested intervention to bring Saira. I called Mahesh PS, an SPG member, and he provided assistance,” he said.
Arya, an Idukki resident and an MBBS student in Vinnytsia, faced hurdles after she disallowed to travel with her pet. On the way to the airport in Romania, she was told that she won’t be allowed to travel with the pet. But she was adamant. Later, she was allowed to travel with her pet. They safely landed in Kochi, her relatives said.
Abdul Fathah, a veterinary surgeon in Vandanmedu, Idukki, told TOI that there are no issues with

Siberian Huskies

in Kerala. “In the present climate, the animal will be stressed and will lead to diseases. To avoid such issues, the dog should be in an air-conditioned room, and direct sunlight should be avoided. Saira can surely survive here,” said Fathah.
