MALAPPURAM: One more person tested positive for
coronavirus at Malappuram on Thursday.
According to the district medical administration, the person who tested positive on Saturday is a 85-year-old man from Poonthanam near
Perinthalmanna
. He has been admitted to government medical college Manjeri. With this the total number of postive cases in the district increased to 12.
The infected person's son had returned from
Saudi Arabia, after
Umrah
pilgrimage on March 11 and son had maintained close contact with the infected person. After having fever on March 26, the person approached city hospital in
Patikkad
for treatment. He was administered injection at the hospital and he returned home. On the same day he visited another private clinic in Akkapparambu and he was administered injection there. He continued to visit the clinic on March 29, 30 and 31 for injection. On Macrh 31, he was shifted to MES Medical College and on next day he was shifted to Manjeri medical college. His grandson, wife, son who returned from Saudi Arabia, son's wife and their children were also shifted to isolation wards in Manjeri medical college.
According to the district collector, son of infected person traveled from Jeddah to Karippur in SV 746 flight and arrived at Karippur airport at 10:20am. Collector has appealed all passengers of the flight to report at district level coronavirus control cell.
Meanwhile, 1,156 more persons were brought under observation in Malappuram as part of the measures to check the spread of coronavirus. With this the total number of persons who are under observation in the district has been increased to 13936. 63 persons are under observation in various government hospitals. Among these 53 persons have been admitted to isolation wards in government medical college , Manjeri, which was declared as Covid special treatment centre. Nilambur
and government Taluk hospital at
Tirurangadi
. 21 persons are under observation in coronavirus care centres. 13852 persons are under observation at their homes.
District medical officer
K Sakkeena
said that a total of 601 persons tested negative for novel corona virus infection in Malappuram so far. Results of the tests of 62 samples are yet to be received, she said.
Meanwhile the a woman who is Vaniyambalam native who tested positive earlier now tested negative and would be discharged from hospital soon.
