World Red Cross Day organised in city
Kanpur: On the occasion of World Red Cross Day, Merchants Chamber of Uttar Pradesh and the Indian Red Cross Society, Kanpur Nagar, on Friday organised a grand event at Merchant Chamber Hall, Civil Lines.
Jitendra Pratap Singh, district magistrate and president, Red Cross Society, and special guest Sanjay Singh, director, Chest Hospital, inaugurated the function. During the programme, students from Omkareshwar School presented a welcome song and a dance-drama themed around blood donation, which was highly appreciated by everyone. On this occasion, the district magistrate also released a magazine focused on first aid treatment.
In his address, the district magistrate stated that no individual should ever hesitate to assist those in need, for this constitutes our true duty and the very message of humanity.
Dr Prasad, an orthopaedic specialist and chairman of the Merchant Chamber’s Health and Lifestyle Committee, stated that the Red Cross is the world’s largest humanitarian organisation and its volunteers invariably play a leading role during any type of disaster. He added that the Merchant Chamber is delighted that everyone has come together to celebrate this event.
RK Saffar, secretary of the Red Cross, presented a detailed report on the organisation and provided information to the public regarding the activities of the Kanpur Red Cross Society.
The chief guest was welcomed by chairman Dr Umesh Paliwal with the presentation of an Angavastram, while Dr Sanjay Singh was welcomed by Angad Singh. On this occasion, individuals, both govt and non-govt, working in the field of humanitarian service were also honoured by being presented with Angavastram.
The event was attended by many dignitaries, including former president of the Merchants’ Chamber Indra Mohan Rohatgi, Council member Tikam Chand Sethia, and members Shesh Narayan Trivedi, Lakhan Shukla, Ramprakash Mishra, Praveen Pandey and Seema Agarwal.
