Kanpur: A woman named Asha Singh and her paramour Sanjay were given life imprisonment for by additional district and sessions judge Vishnu Chandra Yadav on Friday for killing her husband. A fine of Rs 10,000 each was also imposed.
Sanjay also punished with two years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 4,000 under Arms Act.
The court believed the evidence given by Asha Singh's 10-year-old daughter Shivangi, who disclosed facts, which led the police to work out the murder.
Asha had killed her husband Hari Ram Verma with the help of Sanjay Yadav, a resident of Chakeri. The murder took place at night on December 18, 2005 at Bangali Mohal, where Asha lived with her husband and two daughters.
In the morning on December 19, when some one called Hari Ram Verma and nobody opened the main gate.
Hari Ram's mother Vimla Devi, who used to reside on second flood of the house, came down and found that hands and legs of Asha Devi were tied and mouth was stuffed with cloth. She freed Asha Devi and asked her what happended.
Asha told her mother-in-law that three unidentified men had come to meet Hari Ram at night and when she opened the door they overpowered and tied her and killed Hari Ram Verma.
During investigation, Shivangi told police that Sanjay Yadav came at night. She and younger sister were sleeping in the kitchen. She awoke when Sanjay's foot fall over her. Shivangi saw that Sanjay was carrying a blood stained knife and blood stains were on his hands and clothes.
Sanjay and Asha Devi scolded her and covered her face with a blanket and forced to sleep. Shivangi's statement was recorded in front of video camera and she gave the same statement before the court.
