Vintage beauties attract residents to Bithoor fest

Kanpur: Sitting ignored in garages for years, four-wheeled beauties from early 20th century stole the show at a

vintage

car rally organised during the Bithoor Mahotsava on Sunday.

The cars paraded during the rally included a 1913 mode of limousine, a convertible Morris Minor from the 1950s, a Silver Ghost Rolls-Royce and a Chevrolet Austin Chummy from 1925.

The rare automobiles lured many from the comfort of their homes to the rally despite it being a Sunday.

Many car owners welcomed queries about the vintage vehicles and let visitors click selfies with their vehicles.

The rally started from NRI city and covered a 13-kilometre distance to reach Bithoor. The chief guest at the event divisional commissioner Sudhir M Bobde flagged off the rally. Other guests who attended the event were chief development officer Sunil Kumar Singh, SDM (Sadar) Lakhsmi and other district officials.

The participants were welcomed by municipal commissioner Akshay Tripathi when they reached Bithoor. The car owners were presented mementos.

Meanwhile, on Saturday Mohit Gaur and Sujit Gaur walked away with a prize of Rs 51,000 after winning a traditional boat race organised as part of the Bithoor Mahotsava.

Pintu and Sanju Gaur stood second and won a prize of Rs 21,000. The third prize was bagged by Deepak and Sumit Gaur and were awarded a cash prize of Rs 11,000. The 3.5-kilometre race commenced from Siddheshwar Ghat and ended at Brahmavarta Ghat.

Singer Sudesh Bhosle, local MLA Abhijit Singh Sanga, district magistrate Brahmadev Ram Tewari and CDO Sunil Kumar Singh distributed the prizes. It was the first time that a boat race was organised in the Bithoor Mahotsava.

The race was followed by several cultural programmes.

BJP MLA and UP minister Satish Mahana performed a Ganga pujan and visited an exhibition organised at Nana Rao Park on Sunday evening.
