2 fever patients die after wrong injections by quacks in UP; family claims money-motivated ‘quick-fix’ treatment
KANPUR: Two people suffering from fever died after they were allegedly administered wrong injections by quacks in Rahmat Nagar locality and Bojha village of Bilhaur town in Kanpur on Saturday evening.
According to reports, Dinesh Gautam, 58, from Bojha village, was suffering from fever for the last two days. His family rushed him to a makeshift medical store in the Bhausana area, where he was treated by a quack. Victim's brother, Avinash, alleged store operator Chaman gave a wrong shot to Dinesh to quick-fix the treatment and extract money.
The news sparked outrage, and irate villagers created commotion at the spot. Clinic operator Chaman fled as tensions ran high. SHO Durgesh Mishra arrived, trying to calm the crowd, but the family demanded strong action against the accused.
In Chaubepur, Sattar (35) from Rahmat Nagar died after a quack's injection went wrong. Family members claimed makeshift clinic operator Ashish Kumar gave a wrong shot.
The family erupted in protest after Sattar's death, and police arrived to calm the situation. Clinic operator Ashish was nowhere to be found.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Hari Dutt Nemi said the district health department sent two teams of doctors to the spots for investigation, but both the clinics run by the quacks were found closed. A thorough investigation will be conducted, and strict action will be taken against them, he said.
Meanwhile, police are trying to convince the families to send the bodies for post-mortem, and an investigation with health officials is underway.
ACP Manjay Singh said if police get a complaint from the CMO or family members, they will register an FIR and take action.
