KANPUR: Three make-shift shops were gutted in a major fire that broke out at Naubasta area of the city on late Wednesday night. Property worth several lakhs was destroyed, however, fortunately no casualty was reported.
According to the police, the fire broke in a make-shift garment shop and soon spread to other adjacent garment shop and a vegetable shop near Doosri Puliya in Naubasta.
The locals alerted the Police control room following which several fire-tenders were pressed into service. It took more than an hour for the fire personnel to douse the flame completely, said inspector Naubasta Ashish Shukla.
The exact cause of fire has not been found yet, he added.
According to the police, prima facie it appeared that a bidi or cigarette thrown in garbage dump in the area caused the fire. The two garments shop belonged to
Shalu and Anil Gupta, while the vegetable shop belonged to one
Santosh Gupta.
