Three of family killed in road accident

In a ghastly accident, three of a family were killed in a road accident in Kanpur Dehat district on Sunday when the car they were travelling rammed into a roadside tree.

KANPUR: In a ghastly accident, three of a family were killed in a road accident in Kanpur Dehat district on Sunday when the car they were travelling by rammed into a roadside tree.
Two other occupants of the car suffered severe injuries and were admitted to the hospital. While police blamed the car driver for over-speeding, the outraged public attributed the accident to concrete material lying on either side of the national highway at the spot and demanded fencing of the spot or installation of warning boards.

The deceased were identified as Om Prakash Sharma, his son Vikas Sharma and daughter-in-law Puja, of Harbanshmohal area of the city. Om Prakash Sharma's wife and grand-daughter are undergoing treatment at Lala Lajpat Rai hospital, where the doctors stated their condition to be critical.
Police said that the family was on the way back home from Delhi. When their car reached the Derapur area of the district on National Highway-2, it skidded off the road and rammed into a roadside tree.
The car was crushed in the impact and the passengers were caught in the mangled remains. Locals who witnessed the accident informed the police and ambulance service. However, police who rushed to the spot rescued the injured occupants but Om Prakash Sharma, his son Vikas Sharma and daughter-in-law Puja, died later.
Locals of the area said that accident spot was prone to mishaps due to concrete material used in construction of road, abandoned by the authorities on the highway. There were at least half-a-dozen fatal accident in the same place in the last few days, they told TOI and demanded the authorities for necessary arrangements at the mishap-prone spot.
