Teen accuses cousin of rape on marriage vow
Times News Network
Kanpur: A 17-year-old girl in Kanpur accused her maternal cousin brother of raping her on the pretext of marriage, police said.
The police registered a case on her complaint and arrested the accused from Ghaziabad, after which he was sent to jail on Saturday. According to an FIR, the victim used to visit her maternal aunt’s house in Sahibabad frequently. During the past three years the accused gained her trust and lured her into a relationship. He also promised to marry her. However, after some time, the man refused to go through with the marriage. When the victim objected, he distanced himself and fled. He allegedly threatened her repeatedly, warning her not to disclose the incident to anyone and cautioning that she would face defamation if she resisted or spoke out.
The victim informed her family members following which they lodged the FIR with the Chakeri police station. Police traced the accused’s location to Ghaziabad with the help of evidence and surveillance. A police team conducted a raid and arrested the accused on May 29.
After interrogation, he was brought to Kanpur, where after completing the necessary legal proceedings, he was produced before the court on Saturday, following which he was sent to jail.
Station in-charge Ajay Prakash Mishra stated that the case has been registered on the basis of the victim’s written complaint. All aspects of the matter are being investigated and further legal action has been taken on the basis of available evidence.
