Spark relit: 31 couples reunite in family court
Kanpur: Around 31 couples were reunited in the National Lok Adalat organized under the aegis of Zila Vidhik Sewa Pradhikaran in the Kanpur court premises on Saturday. District judge Ashok Kumar Singh offered sweets to the couples and asked them to embrace each other. Later they were sent back to their home. A total of 138 matrimonial cases were disposed of by the six family courts. Principal judicial officer, family court, Sangeeta Srivastava, decided the highest 53 cases followed by 32 matrimonial cases disposed of by another judicial officer Ravindra Kumar (II). Ajay Kumar Srivastava decided 25 cases, Chandra Sheela 4 cases, Chandra Prakash Tiwari 9 cases, and Sandhya Srivastava 14 cases. Chief metropolitan magistrate Tanu Bhatnagar set a record by deciding 3,094 petty criminal cases. A total 10,068 cases were disposed of in the Lok Adalat. According to the secretary, Zila Vidhik Sewa Pradhikaran, a sum of Rs 12,63,92,788, realized in the Lok Adalat, was given as compensation to the beneficiaries. District judge Ashok Kumar Singh (III), who inaugurated the Lok Adalat, himself disposed of five cases.
The cases settled in the Lok Adalat were regarding motor accident claims, civil suits, petty criminal offences, and matrimonial cases. The judges of the civil courts disposed of 9,048 cases and realized an amount of Rs.3,29,58,743. They decided 53 cases of motor accident claims and awarded Rs 2,62,40,000 to the claimants as compensation amount. Similarly, commercial courts decided 10 cases and realized Rs 48,41,027. The Lok Adalat was conducted by ADG (III) Vinod Kumar Singh, who was also its nodal officer.
