KANPUR: A seminar on management of diarrhoea in children was organised at Ursala Horsman Memorial (UHM) Hospital on Saturday. Dr VN Tripathi, superintendent-in-charge of Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital was the key note speaker at the seminar.
Addressing doctors of UHM and resident doctors of GSVM, Tripathi stated that diarrhoea was one of the major killers of children all over the world.
Every year lakhs of children died due to diarrhoea. There was an increase of 25 per cent in the number of children suffering from diarrhoea. Dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and malnutrition were the major cause of death from diarrhoea among children, he said.
Further speaking Dr Tripathi informed that treatment of diarrhoea depended on the severity of the dehydration. "If it is a mild dehydration case WHO-ORS should be given along with home cooked food. Above all, infants should be continued with breast feeding. This helps in rapid recovery of infants suffering from diarrhoea.
He further emphasised on giving zinc salt for two weeks for rapid recovery. When diarrhoea in children is over, they should be provided with additional food to prevent malnutrition, he added.
The seminar was organised by doctors GK Tiwari, Vinod Tripathi, Shailendra Tiwari and other members of paediatrics department were present on this occasion.
