Scramble after shredded currency notes fly in air
Kanpur: Shredded currency notes flying in Sherpura area of Etawah on Saturday led to a mad rush. Reports said tarpaulin on a truck accidentally opened and huge quantity of shredded currency notes flew in the air and spread on the Etawah-Bareilly link road. People rushed to the spot to collect the shredded notes.
According to reports, there were shredded notes of Rs 10, 50 and 100 denomination lying all over the street. The Basrehar police received a phone call regarding the incident in the morning of Saturday. “Soon a police team rushed to the site and after preliminary investigation stated that they have collected a few shredded notes to find out that whether the same were authentic or not,” police said.
“The shredded notes were very fine, hence it was difficult to ascertain its genuineness, it appears someone tried to do colour photo copy of Rs 10, 50 and 100 notes, and later out of fear of being caught shredded and threw them at the secluded place. Investigations are underway. Several teams have been formed to trace the source of shredded currency notes,” said SHO Basrehar Mukesh Babu Chauhan.
According to eyewitnesses, the shredded notes were loaded in a truck. Police sources said that the police were scanning CCTV footage from places in the vicinity to ascertain the registeration number plate of the vehicle.
“After recording the statements of locals and eyewitnesses investigations have begun,” police added.
