Kargil war veteran shoots wife, teen son in Kanpur; jumps before train
KANPUR: A 51-year-old Kargil war veteran, allegedly shot his wife and 16-year-old son with his licensed gun at his home in Sen Pashchim Para police station area of Kanpur before jumping in front of a train near a railway underpass in Tulsiyapur village.
The incident came to light on Monday morning when the police were informed that a man as run over by a train. The police identified the body with the help of the bike found near railway tracks. The deceased was identified as retired soldier Chetram Paswan (51). When police reached Chetram's house to inform his family they found the doors open and bodies of his wife Sunita Verma (40), and their son, Deep (16) lying on the floor with a double-barrel gun lying nearby.

Joint Commissioner of Police Vipin Tada said that on Monday morning the police ere informed that a person ended his life by jumping before a freight train on the railway tracks near Kathogar-Imlipur railway underpass. Police said that the body was identified with the help of Aadhaar card found in his pocket and his bike.
Police said Sunita was shot in the head and Deep in the chest. It was believed that Sunita was shot first and when Deep rushed into the room to save her, he was also shot.
The forensic team collected evidence and took the gun and a mobile phone found at the spot in its custody. According to neighbours the couple had a fight on Sunday night. However, Chetram's brother Babu Ram alleged it to be a case of murder. He said that a rope was tied around Deep's waist. He said that there was no reason for him to end his life as he had also repaid his debt which he took for his hosue and daughter's marriage.
Chetram, a native of Serua Bakhariya village of Ghatampur, married Sunita of Palhenpur village in Sadh police station area, 25 years ago. After retiring from the Army, he worked as a security guard at a bank in Bada Chauraha.
Chetram's daughter got married 6 months ago and son studied in Class IX. The family had moved into their newly constructed house in Tulsiyapur 4 months ago. According to sources, Chetram took a loan of Rs 12 lakh for the house and his daughter's wedding. Unable to repay the loan, he had asked his father, Ayodhya Prasad, for his share of land two months ago. A month ago his father sold a field and gave him Rs 12 lakh with which he had repaid the loan.
Sunita's sister, Asha Devi, reached the spot, though she refused to say anything.
