Rape, murder accused arrested after encounter

KANPUR: A rape-cum-murder accused was on Friday morning injured in an exchange of fire with police at national highway -2 near Kurusena village in Etawah district.
“Sachin Kumar Jatav, accused in rape-cum-murder of a nine-year-old a few days ago in Jaswantnagar area, was surrounded by police teams of Jaswant Nagar police station and Crime branch after which he started firing,” SSP Etawah Santosh Kumar Mishra said.
In the exchange of fire, accused Sachin was hit by bullets. The accused suffered injuries in his leg in the encounter, he said.
The accused has been admitted to a hospital and placed under arrest, the police said, adding a pistol and cartridges were seized from him.
