Kanpur: An inspection of the under-construction multi-level parking facility at the collectorate took place on Wednesday. The inspection party included Sarvesh Verma (project manager, C&DS Jal Nigam), Vinay Dwivedi (tehsildar, Sadar Kanpur Nagar), Vikas Giri (junior engineer, Jal Nigam) along with other officials.
During the visit, it was found that shuttering work for the lintel in the rear section of the third floor was ongoing. The officials noticed water seepage from the ceiling. It was found that installation of a mechanical parking system in the basement was not practical in light of current traffic volumes and maintenance challenges.
The officials instructed that a conventional parking system should be provided instead.
Instructions were issued for the remaining construction work to be completed within the prescribed period to ensure timely access for the public. The proposal for a ramp to facilitate rooftop access was set aside after receiving official orders.
The team suggested that, to ensure financial sustainability, the ground floor should have maximum space for retail use, and the rooftop should be utilised for commercial purposes such as hotels, restaurants, and party venues to generate revenue for ongoing maintenance and operations. The directives clarified that only boundary walls would be permitted on the rooftop.
