Dodging all the bullets of betrayal over the years, Roman Reigns is back in his power. Just when it looked like everything was settled for good between Gunther and CM Punk, with the latter being on the back foot, the Original Tribal Chief showed up and turned the tables upside down. On the July 14 episode of WWE Raw, the big dog of the yard got a piece of Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, who dared to get under the skin of Punk and Jey Uso following the match. Reigns saved Punk and his cousin, but that was never his main goal to be back.
It's always Seth freakin Rollins and his former Wiseman who launched the most ruthless Judas kiss on him from the stage of WrestleMania 41. Then why did the other members of the 'visionaries' taste the king's wrath first? Well, it's Seth's injury that made the creative revise the plan.
Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins at SummerSlam was a reportedly long-settled plan
At the 40th edition of WWE's Saturday Night Main Event, the injury horror was back. And this time it was none but the Visionary himself. While butting heads in a gruesome fight against LA Knight, the Architect pulled off a Lionsault off the second rope and couldn't retain the balance. He fell on his feet and was visibly shirking his legs in pain, but somehow managed to crawl to the corner of the ring and talked to the medical team.
That was it for the 39-year-old.
Initially, the injury looked a little more serious than it was. Media houses started to speculate that Rollins could be out for a long time, possibly leaving his big SummerSlam appearance in severe jeopardy. Triple H and the team didn't want to take the risk, and right after, on Monday Night Raw, they brought out the Tribal Chief. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE originally wanted to pitch a grand return match of Reigns against Rollins at the August PLE.
That was quite significant in the latest promos and hints that were circulating over the months. Everyone seemed to be sold that Reigns would be back at SummerSlam, and against whom was not even a question. But the injury got in the way and put the blood-sucking rivalry to a halt. Now the question is, how long? Nobody really knows. Triple H has already updated the media and the fans that Rollins' injury is still inclusive, and a lot will depend on his MRI report that's yet to come to dish more clarity on his status for the biggest MetLife Stadium event next month. Then what is the wisest alternative for the OTC1?
Is WWE scheming a better alternative SummerSlam plan for Reigns?
Replacing Seth directly with Bron Breakker looks like the most convenient one. The Superiority of the 'Spears' sounds like a good excuse to lock horns. Also, Bron is in a decent place to secure a one-to-one match with the OG like Reigns. He deserves it, and they will look triggered in the graphics, no doubt about that.
But WWE can go for a little tweak as well, tagging Jey Uso and Bronson Reed into the equation and making it a full-fledged tag team match. The only thing that the OTC fans can take a chill pill about is that it's nearly inconceivable that Seth's sidelining will deter Reigns from having his grand match at SummerSlam, anyway. Hold your horses, folks, your OTC1 is on the charge, sleek and solid!
