Nayudu trophy: UP score 290 against K’taka in pre-QF

Kanpur: Middle order batsman Swastik’s unbeaten century enabled UP to score 290 runs in their first innings against Karnataka on the opening day of their pre-quarter final match of U-16 cricket tournament for Col C K Nayudu trophy on Sunday.Karnataka in reply in their first innings scored 26 for no loss when the umpires called the day. Vinay Sagar and AA Lochan were batting on 14 and 10 runs respectively.UP’s decision to bat first on Alur cricket stadium track proved wrong when they lost their half side on mere 98 runs. UP’s top order once again failed to give the required start. They lost Harsh Tyagi and Aditya Sharma when the score was 17 runs. Ansh Yadav and Kritagya KK Singh stemmed the rot and pushed the team's score to 98 runs. They had added 81 runs for the third wicket. At this juncture Vidyadhar Patil broke their partnership claiming Ansh Yadav for 37 and thus UP lost wickets of captain Sameer Rizvi (0) and Kritagya KK Singh (32). Siddharth Yadav and Swastik tried to stitch the damage by adding 50 runs for the sixth wicket but Rohit Kumar separated them by trapping Siddharth in front of the wicket. He contributed 21 runs.Swastik got good support from Shiva Singh who contributed 36 runs in 33 balls. Before falling prey to Rohit Kumar, he hammered 5 boundaries and a six. This was the third fifty-odd run partnership of the innings. Only Swastik could face the rival bowlers confidently and returned unbeaten 108 runs scored in 139 balls plundering 8 hits to the fence and 6 sixes.Medium pacer Vidyadhar Patil bagged 4 wickets for 60 runs.
