Nayudu trophy: J’khand trailing by 24 runs

Kanpur: Host UP is on the brink of victory against Jharkhand as they grabbed 7 second innings wickets for 148 runs of the visitors after follow-on at close of the third day’s game in under- 25 cricket tournament for Col C K Nayudu trophy played at the Green Park stadium on Tuesday.Jharkhand is still trailing 24 runs behind with three wickets in hand, and they have to play the whole fourth day.

In the morning, UP wrapped Jharkhand’s first innings on 198 runs and got a lead of 172 runs. The UP captain asked the visitors to follow on. Spinners ruled at Green Park strip and soon they reduced Jharkhand to 5 for 59. Though V Vishal (16) and Sharandeep (15) gave a moderate start scoring 27 runs for the first wicket, Harsh Tyagi broke their partnership by trapping Vishal in front of the wicket.Thereafter Kritgya Singh and Zeeshan Ansari bagged two wickets each in quick succession and pushed Jharkhand in a tight corner. Captain Surwar and Aditya Singh tried to stem the rot and added 42 runs for the sixth wicket. Kritagya broke their partnership by trapping Surwar in front of wicket for 24. He scored 24 runs in 84 balls and sent just one ball to the fence. His next prey was Aditya Singh who was caught by Sameer Rizvi for 32 runs scored in 101 balls hitting 2 boundaries. Manishi was batting on 29 runs with Shubham Kumar Singh who has yet to open his account.UP coach Mohd Amir praised the efforts of its spinners, especially Kritagya Singh who has bagged 7 wickets including 3 of the first innings in this match. He hoped that his bowlers would exploit the morning moisture of the wicket and wrap the visitors’ innings at the earliest.Earlier in the morning, Jharkhand resumed its first innings from 7 for 177 and could add 21 runs in their overnight score and lost their remaining three wickets. Arvind Kumar, who was batting on 39, completed his half century and thereafter he fell prey to spinner Kritagya Singh. He forced him to come out of crease and Aditya Sharma beautifully stumped him.
