NEW DELHI: A 19-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted by her friend whilst two others recorded the incident and distributed the footage on social media in Thane district, police said on Tuesday.
The Bhiwandi police apprehended the woman's 22-year-old friend on Sunday for the assault, along with her girlfriend and another individual who recorded the incident, an official stated.
The incident occurred in the Kamatghar area of Bhiwandi on December 29, 2024, according to police reports.
The official stated that the victim's friend convinced her to accompany him for a walk in the afternoon before taking her to a lodge where he allegedly assaulted her.
The two other accused recorded the incident and circulated it on social media platforms.
The woman filed a police complaint one month after the incident, following the widespread circulation of the video, the official stated.
"We have arrested two men and the victim's girlfriend who was part of the conspiracy," senior inspector Krishnadev Kharade stated, adding that the trio remain in police custody until February 12.
