Kanpur: On the occasion of Bakrid, the ulema (religious leaders) appealed to the Muslim devotees to plant saplings for increasing green cover in the city, provide water to birds and arrange drinking water for road commuters amid the intense heat. They also urged citizens to contribute towards the development of the country.
Special prayers were offered for peace in society and for strengthening brotherhood and solidarity among the people. After offering namaz, the devotees embraced each other and exchanged Eid greetings.
They started reaching Eidgah and mosques well before the scheduled time announced earlier and offered namaz peacefully. At several mosques, prayers were offered in two shifts. In many places, the first shift of namaz was held at t 5.45 am.
The largest gathering was witnessed at Markazi Eidgah, Benajhabar. The Eidgah management committee had appealed to the devotees to offer prayers inside the campus to which the Muslims responded positively. Hafiz Subhan Elahi led the namaz at the Eidgah where he appealed to the Muslims to display good behaviour and meet people with love and affection.
At Eidgah Gadiana, Maulana Hashim Ashrafi appealed to the people to take care of animals and birds during the ongoing intense heat conditions and provide them water. He also urged every person to plant and nurture a sapling.
Qazi Shahr Saquib Adeeb Misbahi, who led the namaz at Eidgah Chandmari , asked the people to increase green cover of the city by planting more and more saplings to conserve the environment.

The ulema also appealed to the devotees to sacrifice animals at the designated and closed places instead in the open and not to block roads. They stressed that Islam never permits harassment of others by obstructing roads and urged them to maintain cleanliness.
The Congress Party set up a camp at Badi Eidgah and greeted the devotees. City Congress party president Pawan Gupta said that the country’s biggest strength is “Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb”.
Senior district administration officials were also present at the Markazi Eidgah, Benajhabar.
