Light drizzle brings relief; more showers, winds predicted by Met office
Kanpur: Residents of the city experienced rapidly changing weather conditions on Monday morning, beginning with a brief spell of pleasant climate before giving way to warmer conditions later in the day.
After a slightly warm night, the city woke up to a sudden change in weather around 7 am. Dense clouds covered the sky, accompanied by cool breezes and light drizzle, bringing relief to the residents. The pleasant conditions lasted for nearly an hour. However, by around 9 am, the clouds cleared and bright sunshine returned, leading to a rise in temperature.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the temporary weather shift caused a drop of nearly 5°C in the maximum temperature, which was recorded at 31°C. The Northeasterly winds blowing at speeds between 13.1 kmph and 33.9 kmph also contributed to keeping the conditions relatively cool during the morning hours. The drizzle was too brief to register measurable rainfall.
The IMD has forecast similar weather patterns for Tuesday, with mild sunshine interspersed with passing clouds. High humidity levels are expected to keep both the actual temperature and the heat index relatively moderate.
The department has also predicted the possibility of light drizzle or showers accompanied by strong winds, dust storms, and isolated hailstorms on Tuesday.
Weather expert S Sunil Pandey from Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology explained that earlier expectations of evening dust storms and rainfall were revised in the latest update. He noted that the cloud trough line has shifted northwards towards the Himalayan foothills, reducing rainfall activity over southern regions, including the Kanpur division.
He added that the trough line remains dynamic and if it had stayed at a lower latitude, heavy rainfall could have occurred across southern Uttar Pradesh and Bundelkhand, including Kanpur.
Despite the brief morning relief, the return of bright sunshine later in the day made conditions warmer once again, reflecting the ongoing variability in the region’s weather.
