KANPUR: A class 8 student committed suicide after allegedly beaten by his maths teacher and school manager in Etawah.
Mayank Shakya (11), who consumed poison on Thursday afternoon, died at a hospital in Saifai on Friday morning.
In his suicide note, Mayank accused his maths teacher Sandeep Kumar and school manager Surendra Dhangar of thrashing him for scoring poor marks in maths.
Mayank studied at Brightened Public School.
He was admitted to a private hospital from where doctors referred him to Saifai Medical University. "His condition deteriorated during treatment and he passed away around 9am on Friday," said police.
Police said Mayank's family lives in Mainpuri while he stayed with his grandparents in Etawah. His father Mukesh Babu Shakya is a school teacher.
Inspector, Jaswantnagar, Anil Kumar Singh, said, "In his suicide note, Mayank wrote that he was weak in maths and was often beaten by Sandeep Kumar and Surendra Dhangar. He further alleged that the duo had driven him to suicide. The suicide note has been handed over to writing experts."
Singh added that they were yet to contact Kumar and Dhangar because their cellphones were switched off.
Mayank's father has lodged a complaint aginst the duo. "A police team will visit the school on Saturday and record the statements of school staff and Mayank's classmates," said Singh.
