KANPUR: A Kanpur court on Friday awarded life imprisonment to an Uttar Pradesh biscuit industry scion, his lover and four others for the 2014 murder of his wife.
Additional sessions judge Ajay Kumar Tripathi ordered baron Om Prakash Shyamdasani's son Peeyush, Manisha Makhija and the four others -- so far on bail for the murder of Peeyush's wife Jyoti -- to be taken into custody.

They were pronounced guilty on Thursday.
The prosecution asked for capital punishment but the judge observed in his order that this case did not come under the "rarest of the rare" category to justify the death sentence.
Jyoti was allegedly kidnapped and stabbed to death by Peeyush's four associates -- Ashish Kahyap, Awadhesh Chaturvedi, Sonu and Renu Kannaujia -- on July 27, 2014.
The evidence indicated that Peeyush had planned to have Jyoti eliminated twice earlier, on July 13 and July 20, 2014. The plot was executed with the use of forged SIMs and both SIMs were destroyed after the murder.
There was no direct evidence in the case but circumstances and evidence and story knitted by the prosecution disclosed the truth. The relationship between Manisha and Peeyush was clear as they had chatted more than 5,500 times on mobile, the court said and added the prosecution had proved its case. Jyoti's father Shankar Nagdev said after Friday's sentencing that truth had won and he had full faith in the judiciary.
