KANPUR: Final-year graduation and post-graduation course students are all geared up for the much awaited campus placement drive set to begin at IIT-Kanpur from December 1. This year, however, Google and e-commerce giant Flipkart are not participating in the hiring process.

All the other major recruiters will be participating in the placement drive, including Microsoft, Capital One, and ITC. These companies will be evaluating students based on their CPI (score) and performances in interviews. Talking to TOI, the placement cell incharge of IIT-Kanpur, Prof Shyam Nair, said Flipkart and Google are not participating in the placement drive this year. He said around 280 companies had confirmed their participation in the first phase of the drive that will continue till December 22.

When asked about why Flipkart and Google are not participating in the placement drive this year, he said that they had informed about their decision of not taking part this year. Sources, however, said that Flipkart had pulled itself back from recruiting at all the IITs this year.

Prof Nair said that on Day 1 companies such as Microsoft, Capital One, ITC,

Credit Suisse

, and JP Morgan will be interviewing students. On being asked how many students had got Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs), Prof Nair said that more than 90 students had been offered PPOs by major firms, and students who accept pre-placement offers will be debarred from appearing in the interviews during the placement drive.

Prof Nair said that a total of 1,050 students, including those who have got PPO offers, have registered themselves at the placement cell. A day before the placement drive on Wednesday, the students took written tests before they are to appear for interviews. These tests were conducted to assess their aptitude, reasoning and technical knowledge.
