KANPUR: Disposing of a writ petition for granting arms licence Justice Sudhir Agarwal of Allahabad High Court recently criticized the system and said: "It is high time to take appropriate measures, otherwise apathy might cause people's outburst."

Abhishek Yadav had claimed that he had applied for grant of arm licence vide application dated February 16, 2008.
The said application had not yet been dispose by the district authorities. The standing counsel for state urged that the application might be considered and decided expeditiously.
Justice Agarwal passed the direction to the competent authority to decide the application of petitioner within three months and produce a certified copy of the order before him. He came down heavily on authorities and said that the court was dealing with many cases daily regarding complaints that statutory authority under Arms Act was keeping the matter pending for unreasonably long period and showing laxity and inaction in passing appropriate order.
He further observed that the orders passed by the Central as well as state government state that the district magistrates should dispose of the application of grant of licence within three months but those orders are not being followed.
