Four get life term for murder

Four persons were convicted by the additional district and sessions judge, Kanpur, on Thursday for committing a murder and sentenced to undergo life imprisonment. A fine of Rs 11,000 each was imposed on them.

KANPUR: Four persons were convicted by the additional district and sessions judge, Kanpur, on Thursday for committing a murder and sentenced to undergo life imprisonment. A fine of Rs 11,000 each was imposed on them.
The sentenced persons were identified as Jairam Kushwaha, Ramesh, Latte and Madan, all resident of Kekar Bhau village, located under the limits of Narwal police station.

According to prosecution, Jairam owned a betel shop. He had heated exchanges with one Devendra, a resident of village Nasla who came there to purchase husk on May 10, 2006. Jairam and his accomplices attacked Devendra with lathis and sticks. The victim's nephew Rajesh was also thrashed when tried to save his uncle. Devendra died on the spot.
Rapist sentenced: Four persons were convicted by the fast track court, Kanpur, on Thursday and ordered to undergo 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. A fine of Rs 10,000 each was imposed on them.
The sentenced persons were identified as Rashid, Raja, Ashiq Ali and Sahib Alam, all resident of Babupurwa.
They were accused of raping a minor girl. Complainant Babu Singh's daughter had gone out to take some articles from a shop on July 15, 2007. Near Char Rod crossing, the girl met Rashid who enticed her to accompany him to Lucknow. On way, co-accused Raja, Ashiq Ali and Sahib Alam joined him. The four took the girl to Lucknow and physically exploited her.
