Kanpur: A father-son duo allegedly cheated 29 people of Rs 7 lakh by promising housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana in the Chakeri police station area. After the victims neither received housing nor got their money back, one of them filed an FIR on court orders.
In his FIR, Ashish Kumar of Kopar Ganj, Raipurwa, said he works as a labourer and knew Pawan Kumar of Raksha Vihar, Shyam Nagar. Pawan told him his father, Dinesh Kumar, worked at a gun factory and could arrange jobs at Metro or the gun factory, and also help with colony allotment under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana, according to the complaint.
The complaint stated that he and 29 others gave Rs 7 lakh to the duo in the name of colony allotment. When the colony was not allotted after considerable time, the victims spoke with Pawan Kumar and his father, who assured them that the colony would be provided soon.
The complaint alleged that when no housing was provided after a few more months, the victims went to Dinesh’s residence on June 25, 2025, where they were harassed, robbed, threatened and driven away. It further alleged that after police failed to take action, the victims approached the court.
Station in-charge Ajay Prakash Mishra said, “An FIR has been registered on the written complaint and the matter will be investigated and action taken.”
