Kanpur: In an effort to provide convenience to passengers at railway stations, various services are being outsourced.
This initiative will provide passengers with access to food, taxis, and transportation to their desired destinations, such as homes or hotels, upon arriving at the station. A Delhi-based company has been given the contract to manage passenger service centres at 19 stations under the North Central Railway (NCR).
These centres are being established at Central, Govindpuri, Anwarganj, and Panki Dham stations in Kanpur. At Kanpur Central station, a passenger service centre is under construction near the main gate on cantonment side. "If a passenger wants to visit tourist spots in Kanpur, stay at a hotel, or go to a nursing home or spa centre immediately after getting off the train, the company will be responsible for that." The company will also provide a helpline number and an app to facilitate these services.
According to Vijay Sharma, commercial management inspector (CMI) of Railways, the contract was awarded to Response Cargo Movers, a Delhi-based company. The company already commenced operations at Prayagraj station and is expected to start functioning at the Central station by November.
On the city side of the station, a counter will be set up near the tunnel from where passengers will be able to obtain all train-related information free of charge, with representatives from the company providing necessary details. Additionally, the company will launch an application and a helpline number to further assist passengers.
