Kanpur: A CRPF jawan’s wife, who went missing five days ago from Panki Ratanpur Colony in Kanpur, was strangled to death by her lover due to illicit relations. The woman’s body was dumped in a drain located near Bhaupur Maitha of Kanpur Dehat. On Friday night, the police recovered her body on the basis of inputs provided by her alleged lover and arrested him.
Inderpal, who lives in Ratanpur, is posted as a personnel in CRPF.
He had gone to Mainpuri for election duty, while his wife
Geeta Devi (34), was at home.
On February 20, Inderpal made a call on his wife’s mobile phone, but his wife didn’t pick up his calls. Subsequently, he informed the Panki police about the incident on the apprehension of something untoward. When the police reached his house, the woman was not found at home. Inderpal, when returned home on February 21, lodged a missing complaint with the police station. Investigations began and when the police checked the CDR of the woman’s mobile, the last call was received from a person named Mukhtar, a car mechanic and a resident of Rura Jamalpur area of Kanpur Dehat.
When the police grilled him, he confessed to his crime. Mukhtar told the police during interrogation that he had a love affair with Geeta. But, he was upset these days, as Geeta had started talking to someone else. Even after warning, she did not mend her ways. On the evening of the incident, after taking her with him in a car, Mukhtar strangled her to death and threw the body in the drain. Police station in-charge Anjan Kumar recovered the body from the drain in Bhaupur Maitha area on late Friday night.
Mukhtar told the police that he is a resident of Geeta’s maternal house Rura Jamalpur in Kanpur Dehat.
He was in a relationship with Geeta before her marriage. “When her husband goes for duty, he would often visit Geeta at her house in Panki Ratanpur colony,” said the police further. The police searched Geeta’s CDR and before talking to Mukhtar for the last time, she had also spoken to
Pushpendra Singh, a property dealer living in Gangaganj area of Panki. Police took him into custody and grilled him.
According to the police station in-charge, it also came to fore that apart from Mukhtar, two other people were also present in the car. “Now, we are trying to trace two other aides who helped Mukhtar in eliminating Geeta,” he said.
