, who has been charged under Custom Act. The concerned had claimed that foreign origin gold bars weighing around 23 kgs were collected through smuggling by Jain.
The presiding officer had partly heard the arguments of the defence and prosecution and they concluded their arguments on Wednesday.
The defence battery pleaded about his health and claimed that bars were procured by business saving and accused Piyush’s health was deteriorating in jail. He was suffering from multiple diseases and was not being treated properly. Moreover, he did not have any passport, therefore, he could not go abroad.
Countering it, prosecution said accused Piyush was interrogated twice with the permission of court and every time he had stated that he had not any paper of purchase of gold bars. It appears that gold bars were smuggled and they were liable to be confiscated and accused should be punished. Beside gold bars, a huge sum of Rs 196 crore was recovered from his possession. It was a grave economic offence, hence his bail application was liable to be rejected.
