Kanpur: Central Zone recorded its second consecutive victory in senior women inter-zonal championship when they defeated South Zone by 30 runs at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana stadium on Wednesday.
Central Zone, deciding to bat first, posted a total of 146 for 5 in 20 overs. Thereafter, they wrapped the innings of South Zone on 116 runs in 19.5 overs. The key feature of Central Zone’s innings was that four out of five wickets were declared run out.
Like the first match opener Nuzhat Parveen and Jasia Akhtar once again gave a sound start to the Central Zone adding 73 runs in 11 overs. Their partnership separated when Jaisa was adjudged run out on a throw of SR Patil. She scored 30 runs in 35 balls. Nuzhat also returned back in the next over when Sanjana S holed her defence. She contributed 33 runs in 32 deliveries plundering 3 boundaries.
Thereafter D Hemlatha (11), Muskan Malik (23) and Anjali Singh (2) were declared run out.
DD Kasat and K Anjali Sarvani displayed sensible batting and did not take any risk Both returned unbeaten on 18 and 17 runs respectively. Kasat scored 18 runs in 13 balls with one boundary and one six while Anjali scored 17 on 10 balls hammering 3 hits to the fence.
South Zone’s beginning was a curse for them as they lost top five wickets for just 17 runs in 5 overs.
Sanjana S and Shikha Pandey stemmed the rot by sensible batting.
They did not take any risk and added 62 runs in their sixth wicket partnership. Rashi Kanaujia broke their partnership claiming Shikha Pandey for 28. Shikha showed aggressive batting and scored 28 runs in 21 balls, hammering 2 boundaries and two sixes.
Wickets once again fell at regular intervals as the remaining batswomen could not stick in the middle. Sanjana S was also declared run out when Jasia Akhtar’s throw hit the stumps before she could reach home. Sanjana scored 60 runs in 52 balls with the help of 6 boundaries. For Central Zone, K Anjali and Rashi Kanaujia bagged 3 wickets each.
