Bikru ambush: SIT seeks sacking of ex-SHO & SI

KANPUR: The special investigation team probing the Bikru massacre case in which eight policemen were ambushed and killed by gangster Vikas Dubey and his aides here on the night of July 2, 2020, has recommended sacking of former station house officer of Chaubepur police station Vinay Tiwari and beat in-charge and S-I KK Sharma from service for their role in the matter.SIT's investigating officer additional commissioner of police (ACP) Anand Kulkarni on Thursday said, "The investigation report in the case was submitted to the government on Wednesday. It has been decided to sack both the policemen."IG Range Kanpur, Prashant Kumar said that action has been recommended after the allegations against both of them were proved in the departmental inquiry.Kanpur police had arrested Vinay Tiwari and KK Sharma for leaking information about the police movement to the history-sheeter Vikas Dubey before the raid.Both cops were close to Vikas, were involved in Bikru ambush plotDuring the probe it came to fore that both the policemen were close to Vikas Dubey and were involved in the plot of the crime. They had fled from there at the time of the incident. The departmental inquiry also revealed that both did not perform their duties.To recall, on the night of July 2, 2020, a police team that went to the house of Vikas Dubey in Bikru village of Kanpur for a raid, was attacked by the latter and his aides.
Eight policemen, including the then CO of Bilhaur, Devendra Mishra, were killed by the gangster and his aides in the attack.Later, the police, in back-to-back encounters, had killed six accused including Vikas Dubey and his five alleged aides.About 50 accused, including Vinay Tiwari and KK Sharma, are in jail. "Both the policemen are accused in the Bikru case. They are currently in jail. They have been found guilty in the departmental inquiry and now they have been dismissed," said the IG Range.The SIT, formed to probe the ambush, had pointed to a nexus between the police and Vikas Dubey and had recommended action against 80 police personnel. The 3,500-page report was later submitted to the government by the SIT on Wednesday. In the report, the SIT had given 36 recommendations and details of the role of guilty officers and 80 police personnel.During the probe, the SIT also analysed Vikas Dubey's mobile phone records in the past one year and found out that policemen were in regular touch with him.The government had constituted the SIT led by additional chief secretary Sanjay Bhoosreddy which had additional DG Hari Ram Sharma and DIG Ravinder Goud as its members on July 11, 2020.
