43°C scorches Kanpur, humidity at 50% worsens misery
Kanpur: The temperature in Kanpur continues its upward climb, with the mercury touching 43 degrees Celsius, 4.5 notches obove normal, on Saturday, marking one of the hottest days of the season so far.
All major observatories in Kanpur Nagar recorded temperatures of 43°C or above. The observatory at CSA University, despite
its green cover, registered 43°C, while Company Bagh recorded 43.3°C. The minimum temperature settled at 23°C.
Adding to the discomfort, relative humidity levels surged to 50%, intensifying the oppressive “real feel” conditions across the city.
Northwesterly winds, blowing at speeds between 2.8 km/h and 4.6 km/h, have further worsened the heatwave-like situation.
According to forecasts by the India Meteorological Department, the coming days are expected to bring intense heat, rising daytime temperatures, and heat index levels. Hot and gusty winds are also likely to prevail during the daytime, maintaining severe heatwave conditions.
However, there may be some respite towards the end of the month. S Sunil Pandey, weather expert at CSA University, said that a trough line extending from western Uttar Pradesh to Bengal, coupled with cyclonic and anti-cyclonic circulations affecting hill regions, could bring slight relief.
