2 forest officials arrested, sent to judicial custody in bribery case
Kanpur: Jhansi’s anti-corruption unit on Saturday secured judicial custody from a special magistrate for two forest officials accused of accepting bribe from a contractor to allow the transport of timber.The two were arrested in a late-evening operation on Friday, after a trap team led by Inspector, Shadab Khan caught them red-handed while accepting the bribe.The action was followed after a contractor, Tej Singh, filed a complaint, alleging that the forest guard, Priya Kumari and watcher, Jahar Singh, had been demanding Rs 5,000 per truckload to permit the movement of timber wood that is otherwise legally tradable.Acting in plain clothes, the team apprehended the accused immediately after the contractor handed over cash to them.The accused were taken to Mehroni police station, where a case was registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
