Drug smuggler killed in Pali after encounter with police
Jodhpur: A drug smuggler was killed in an exchange of fire with police personnel in Pali on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as Subhash Bishnoi (25) from Dangiawas in Jodhpur.
Bishnoi was chased by the DST team of Rajsamand and ran his punctured vehicle for over 4 kilometre before leaving it on the boundary of Pali. He continuously fired at the police team while running but was hit by a bullet from police team during exchange of fire.

He was rushed to the nearest community health centre but succumbed to his injury. His accomplice managed to flee from the spot.
Police have deposited his body in the morgue of Bangar Hospital in Pali and has deployed a large band of policemen at the hospital. However, family and community members, terming the encounter of Subhash fake, have demanded compensation of Rs 1 crore, government job, suspension of DST team and CBI inquiry.
According to information, Rajsamand police had received an information that two persons were smuggling poppy husk in an Innova vehicle and would pass through Rajsamand.
“On the information, the team of DST initiated a hunt for the vehicle and set up check-post in Monday night. Spotting the vehicle, the team in-charge signalled it to stop. But instead of stopping they jumped the check-post and drove towards Pali,” said a police official.

While driving, they continued to fire at the police vehicle. Meanwhile, three tyres of the vehicle flattened, but they continued to drive and entered Pali district. After driving for 4 kilometre, when the vehicle broke down, both of them left the vehicle and began running towards the forest.
While one of them ran away, Subhash continued to fire at the police team. In retaliatory firing, police also fired at him. Iin this cross firing, one bullet hit Subhash and he fell down.
Station officer (Rajsamand) Sudhir Joshi said that entire vehicle was filled with sacks of poppy husk. “We have recovered 20 sacks of poppy husk from their vehicle. Each sack weighed 25-30 kilogram. Besides, a 12 bore shot gun has also been recovered from the spot,” said Joshi.

Police in Jammu recovered 239 kg of poppy straw during a routine check at a checkpoint and arrested two suspects. The truck, coming from Kashmir, was intercepted and the driver and his associate were taken into custody. The driver disclosed his identity as Nazir Ahmed and his associate as Pervaiz. An FIR has been filed and further investigation is ongoing.
