Cloudburst, landslides cripple Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban; highway blocked, homes damaged — see pics

Three people, including two brothers, died in a cloudburst at Seri Bagna village in Ramban district. Rescue efforts were ongoing as of the latest reports.

Widespread rain impact

Continuous rain caused flash floods, landslides, and mudslides in multiple locations, leading to road closures and large-scale damage across Ramban.

Homes severely damaged

About 40 houses in Dharam Kund were damaged, with ten fully destroyed. Vehicles were also swept away by the overflowing stream.

Additional rain casualties

Two more deaths were reported in Reasi district due to lightning strikes, bringing the total rain-related fatalities in Jammu to five in two days.

Highway traffic halted

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed due to landslides and shooting stones. Hundreds of commuters were stranded and later rescued safely.

Government action taken

Chief minister Omar Abdullah scheduled a meeting to assess the damage, while officials prioritized saving lives and promised assistance post-assessment.

Union minister Jitendra Singh commended the district administration's prompt response and assured continued support, including personal aid if needed.
