Was Dholpur encounter a stage-managed one?
JAIPUR: The circumstances under which the dreaded criminal Rajesh alias Badri was killed at the ravines of Dholpur on Monday has raised suspicions of a "fake" encounter.
Badri was wanted in at least a dozen cases of murder and 10 cases of kidnapping and extortion.
Badri has been a sharp shooter and his case history shows he was a master at firing from the carbine and the 8 mm pistol.

But according to the Dholpur and Haryana STF, who jointly gunned down the notorious criminal, Badri fired eight rounds but all missed their mark.
On the other hand, the police claimed to have killed Badri shooting him in his stomach and heart from a distance of about 15 feet. When contacted, Ajay Yadav, SHO, Bari, who was part of the team, said, "We were at a distance of around 15 feet and he was injured in his abdomen and heart."
On Wednesday while completing the formalities of the report on Badri's death, the 10 members of the Harayana police registered their statements in which they claimed that Badri and his accomplice Daara Sikarwaar, who managed to flee, had fired non-stop for half-an-hour.
"We reached the spot around 1 pm and spotted the duo near a temple close to Sempu village in Dholpur district. Spotting 10 of us and other members, including SHO, Bari and SHO, Badri Dang, the duo fired from a carbine and a 8 mm pistol," said Rajesh Phogat, deputy superintendent of police, Haryana.

Asked if Badri was continuously firing, then how come not a single policemen sustained even a minor injury, SHO, Bari, Ajay Yadav said, "Immediately after he fired we pushed ourselves under a lofty crop of mustard and fired back."
In this encounter the police vehicle merely got some bullet marks. Another claim of the Haryana police that has raised doubts is suddenly on Wednesday police claimed that they have recovered a hand grenade from the spot. The grenade is marked HE-36, something that is used only by the army and the police. How had Badri got it ?
Meanwhile, denying allegations that it was a fake encounter, inspector general of police, Ambala, K K Sindhu, said over phone, "Our team camped at the ravines of Dholpur for the past two months. We studied the topography of the ravines, collected pictures of the areas which are used by bandits in this area. After heavy surveillance and cooperation of Dholpur police we got a tip-off that Badri was in this area."
"He had been accused of 12 murders and was wanted by Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh police. Since Dholpur has connecting borders with UP and MP it was his safest hideout," the IG claimed.
