(JMC) sealed eight shops, in an anti-encroachment drive, on Wednesday. They complained that JMC targeted shop owners and has turned a blind eye towards street vendors who are a major cause of traffic jam in the area.

On Thursday, trade unions of the Walled City went to meet the transport minister

said, “We have no problem with JMC taking action against the encroachment but why only shopkeepers are singled out. There are hundreds of street vendors who have encroached footpaths in the market but the authorities are still unable to deal with them. We have talked to the minister and asked him to do something in this regard.”

However, the people of trade union said that JMC should fine people instead of sealing their only source of income. Subhash Goyal, president of Chandpole trade union said, “It’s been more than a year and the JMC is unable to invite tender of the parking lots in the city. Vehicles are parked in the market for more than 15 hours which also counts for encroachment.”

Mayor Vishnu Lahta while talking to TOI said that decision will be taken on Friday. “We will reach a decision after consulting the minister,” said Lahta.tnn
