JAIPUR: Former Lok Sabha MP and Bharatpur ex-royal scion
Vishvendra Singh and his wife Divya Singh, a former MLA, had a narrow escape when a few people attacked them at Deeg town in Bharatpur on Thursday morning. Seven of Vishvendra Singh’s supporters were injured in the incident.
Vishvendra with his wife and supporters were protesting at Laxmi Vilas, a hotel-cum-residence of Raghuraj Singh, who had authored a book on the royal family of Bharatpur .
Vishvendra alleged that the book was full of lies and the author had tried to malign the image of the royal family through his “malicious” writing. While the protest was on, a few of Vishvendra's supporters went berserk and reportedly damaged properties belonging to Raghuraj's family.
Reports indicate that Raghuraj’s son opened fire at the mob in which at least seven were injured.
Vishvendra and his wife escaped unhurt as one of their supporters, who is hospitalized with bullet injuries, managed to push them away. Both the factions have lodged complaints with the police though nobody has been arrested so far. The injured are recuperating at a hospital in Bharatpur. Meanwhile, a huge contingent of police has been deployed in the area as Vishvendra supporters have warned of serious consequences if the attackers were not arrested soon. “We were protesting in a democratic manner against the book, but Deep Raj Singh, son of Raghuraj Singh, opened fire on us,” said Vishvendra.
He said that the book contained “objectionable” and “misleading” history about the royals of Bharatpur. “The author has published some documents and letter which were very personal only to tarnish our image and to gain cheap publicity ,” Vishvendra said.
